Over 400 supporters and loyal members of the Young Progressive Party (YPP) and the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom State has returned to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party in the State.
Their decisions according to them is borne out of the superlative performance of the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, whom they noted has run an inclusive government since assumption of office in May 2023.
According to them, “Pastor Umo Eno has bridged the gap and has given the best governance so far, hence we are here to give him our support to do more for our State.
There is no need for opposition of any kind to a man who has not only indicated interest to give a sense of belonging to all, but has shown practical step through his ARISE Agenda.”
Receiving the defectors on behalf of the State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Uyo, the Uyo Senatorial District Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Ibanga Brownson, and the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Rt. Hon. Frank Archibong thanked them for their decision to fall back to the Umbrella party in the State, adding that they will be given proper sense of belonging in their Units, wards, local government and state levels.
The PDP chieftains assured them that the Governor of the State, Pastor Umo Eno has a lot to offer through his ARISE Agenda, and urged them to join hands with the Governor in building a greater Akwa Ibom State for the good of all.
Speaking separately, the Honourable Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Hon. Frank Archibong assured the defectors of equal opportunities, adding that the Peoples Democratic Party under the leadership of Mr Aniekan Akpan will continue to produce the best leader for the State.
His words, ” you have made the best decision to return to the umbrella. Your coverage is very certain and you will be given equal opportunities. Governor Umo Eno has a whole lot in his ARISE Agenda to take the state to a greater height. Come let’s join hands and support the governor to succeed for the good of us all.”
He urged them to integrate freely and work for the victory of the party at all level, and averred that the party will reach out to them from time to time to ensure that their welfare is well taken care of.
On his part, the Uyo Senatorial District Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Ibanga Brownson extolled them for not being fooled into a party that has no good plans for Akwa Ibom people and Nigeria at large.
