Hon. Eric Akpan commends High Level Of COVID-19 Guidelines compliance by churches
The Akwa Ibom State Government COVID-19 Church monitoring team for Uyo Senatorial District (USD), on Sunday, commended churches in the District for complying with Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), COVID-19 guidelines for Church gatherings.
Hon. Eric Akpan, the Chairman of COVID-19 Church monitoring team, gave the commendation when the committee visited some churches in eight Local Government Areas of USD.
The team which embarked on its Sunday’s routine tour today at about 7 :08 am, visited a total number of 28 churches in Uruan, Nsit Atai, Nsit Ubium, Ibesikpo Asutan, Nsit Ibom, Etinan, Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas.
At Uruan Local Government Area, the team visited five churches; which are: Mount of Liberation worship Centre – Idu Uruan, The Redeemed Christian Church of God – Idu Uruan.
Others are: St. Joseph Quasi Pariah – Idu Uruan, The Apostolic Church – Idu Uruan, and The Mount Zion Christ Church- Idu Uruan.
Qua Iboe Church – Ikot Ubuk Udom, The Apostolic Church- Etobodom- Iwok Obio Aduang, The Church of Christ – Iwok Obio Aduang.
The Apostolic Church Nigeria- Odot 1, Qua Iboe Church – Odot 1, and Qua Iboe Church – Nda Nsit were the six churches visited in Nsit Atai Local Government Area.
Also, at Nsit Ubium Local Government Area, four churches were visited. They churches are: qua Iboe Church – Ikot Akpan Abia, The Body of Christ – Ndukpoise, The King of Kings and the Lord of Lords Church Inc. – Ndukpoise and The Apostolic Church – Ikot Akpan Abia.
At Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, The Apostolic Church Nigeria – Ikot Obio Nko, New Apostolic Church – Ikot Obio Nko, Christ City Baptist Deliverance Ministry Inco. – Ikot Iyan, and New Apostolic Church – Ikot Iyan were the four churches visited by the team.
A total number of six churches were visited in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area by the Committee. The churches visited were: Christ Embassy – Edeobom 1, The Redeemed Christian Church of God – Edeobom 1, and The African Church – Edeobom 1.
Others were: The Apostolic Church – Edeobom 1, Solid Rock Kingdom Church – Obontong and City of the Living God Church – Ikot Ntan.
Again, the team monitored three churches in Etinan Local Government Area and they all complied impressively.
The churches are: Church of Christ – Etinan, The Salvation Army – Ekom Iman Corps and Mount Zion Light House Full Gospel Church Inco. – Ekom Iman.
At Itu and Ibiono Ibom Local Government Areas, there were no traces of worshippers as churhes were done with the day’s service as at the time of the team’s visit.
Speaking at different churches, the Chairman of the team who is also the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, Hon. Eric Akpan appreciated Church leaders and worshippers for an improved adherence to guidelines, so far.
Hon. Akpan admonished a few defaulting churches to as a matter of saftey and protection of lives endeavour to comply with CAN’s protocols for the wellbeing of worshippers and the society at large.
The committee however enumerated CAN’s/AKSG three cardinal guidelines for re-opening of churches in Akwa Ibom State to include:
Provision of running water at church entrance/hand sanitizers, observing of physical distancing and appropriate use of face masks by all worshippers.
Monitoring Team Commends High Level Of Compliance By Churches Within USD.
Hon. Akpan assured that the Committee would continue to do its best to ensure that churches sustained compliance with the COVID-19 guidelines as set by CAN, NCDC, AKSG and WHO.
He charged worshippers and church leaders to coperate with government to achieve more compliance by churches in the Senatorial District and Akwa Ibom State at large.
It was equally observed that today’s monitoring exercise witnessed impressive compliance by churches.
Present during today’s church monitoring exercise were members of the committee, members of the press and men of the Nigerian police force.
