Comrade Dominic Abang was born in June 12, 1973; an indigene of Urue Offong Oruko Local government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
EDUCATION
He started his academic pursuits at Army Children Primary School, (now Primary School, Stadium Road), Oron; and proceeded to the prestigious Methodist Boy’s High School, Oron for his secondary education where he obtained his Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSCE).
He bagged the City and Guilds London Full Technology Certificate in Mechanical Engineering. He further obtained the Bachelor’s (B.Sc.) and
(M. Sc.) degrees respectively in Economics (Public Finance), both at the University of Uyo, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
AFFILIATION
Comrade Abang works with Mobil Producing Nigeria Ultd; an active and vocal member of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN). He is also a member of the Nigeria Economic Society (MNES), as well as the Institute of Chartered Mediators & Conciliators (MICMC).
LEADERSHIP
He has served in several leadership positions in both PENGASSAN and Trade Union Congress (TUC). He was the Chapter Secretary of PENGASSAN (MPN Branch, Eket Chapter); Branch Auditor, Branch Assistant Secretary, Branch Secretary, Ex-Officio – all in the Branch Executive Council (BEC) of PENGASSAN MPN Branch.
At the TUC, he has served as the State Secretary for two terms in the immediate past administration of Comrade Akamba Awah. A position he held at the Akwa Ibom State Council of TUC before his election as state chairman in June 2019.
Currently, Comrade Abang serves as member of the Zonal Executive Council (ZEC), PENGASSAN Port Harcourt Zone; Member, PENGASSAN National Executive Council (NEC); and Member, National Executive Council (NEC) of Trade Union Congress of Nigeria.

He has attended many leadership trainings including Employment laws, Industrial Relations and Negotiation – Lagos Business School LBS, (2019); Trade Union membership: Strategies for Organizing and Coordinating – Ruskin College, Oxford UK (2017); Alternative Dispute Resolution: Mediation and Conciliation (ICMC, Port Harcourt, 2015); Managing & Sustaining Partnering (Nigeria Petroleum Industry Reforms) – PENGASSAN, Calabar (2013); Trade Unionism in Nigeria and the Global Social Protection Agenda, Ghana (2013); Leadership & Management Skills for Unions, and Organizational Sustainability: Negotiation, Arbitration and Conflict Resolution – PENGASSAN, Benin (2012); and Conflict Resolution – DIP Consulting, Lagos (2009).
RESEARCH WORKS
As an Economist, Comrade Abang has carried out many researches and papers in Economics and Econometrics at many conferences including: ‘’Growth and Fiscal Consequences of Terrorism in Nigeria’’ presented at the biennial conference of African Economics Research Consortium AERC, Ethiopia, 2015 (with Dr. Chuku Chuku & Ima-abasi Isip); and ‘’Does Government Spending spur Economic Growth? Evidence from Nigeria’’ (with Dr. Usenobong Akpan), among others.
FAMILY
He is happily married to Mrs. Ukeme Dominic Abang with children.
ACHIEVEMENTS
In fulfilment of part of his agenda for the State Council, Comrade Abang has charted a new course for TUC Akwa Ibom State Council, as he recently imprinted an indelible mark by inaugurating the TUC Women Commission, with an official unveiling of TUC Temporary Secretariat at Nsikak Eduok; a rare feat since the inception of TUC in Akwa Ibom State in 2005.
The TUC Chairman is a passionate unionist who epitomizes humility, integrity and honesty in all his dealings; attributes which draw confidence and trust among his executive members and other allies.
Hobby
Comrade Abang takes interest in studying, particularly on global and
contemporary issues; Travelling, Football, Music; as well as a strong passion for golf.
