The Senator representing Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District, Obong (Sen) Godswill Akpabio has emerged 10th Senate President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Senator Godswill Akpabio is of the All Progressive Party (APC). He is from the south South region of Nigeria. He is serving the senatorial District for the second term bid.
He is an astute politician from Akwa Ibom State.
He had served as the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, during Obong Victor Attah’s administration as the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State.
From there His Excellency, Chief Godswill Akpabio was elected as Governor of Akwa Ibom State for two terms.
At the end of his administration, the people of Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District elected him to represent them at the Senate, where he was elected the Minority Leader despite being a first timer at the Senate.
After serving his people at the Senate, Senator Akpabio was appointed as Minister for Niger Delta, the position he resigned to contest for the presidential position in the just concluded general elections of the nation.
After stepping down for the current president of the Nation, His Excellency, Ahmed Tinubu, Senator Akpabio recontested to represent Ikot Ekpene Senatorial District for the second time at the Senate and overwhelmingly clinched the seat against his close opponent of People’s Democratic party (PPD), Barr. Emmanuel Enoidem.
Today, his colleagues at the National Assembly, having recognized his capacity to unify the Senate, and have unanimously elected him to steer the ship of the Senate as the 10th Senate President.
