Prof. Nse Essien Is New Vice Chancellor Of Akwa Ibom State University (AKSU)
Until his appointment, Prof. Essien had served in various capacities as a member of the State Executive Council.
Before then, he was the Head of Department of Geology, University of Calabar.
Prof. Nse Essien succeeds the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Eno Ibanga, who has been appointed into the State Executive Council.
Abridged Profile of Prof. Nse Essien, the New Vice Chancellor, Akwa Ibom State University
Prof. Nse Udo Essien is an indigene of Nyara-Eyin-Ntong-Uno in Amayam clan of Ikot Ekpene LGA. Essien attended the famous Hope Waddell Training Institute, Calabar in Cross River State for his WASC.
He proceeded to University of Calabar, Cross River State, where he obtained B.Sc (Hons) in Geology in 1984, and has since then practiced and upheld the profession of Geology in its highest esteem.
Prof. Nse Essien is a Sedimentologist with specialty in carbonate and clastic sedimentology. He holds professional membership in reputable associations including Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, American Association of Petroleum Geologist, Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists, etc.
He holds a Masters degree in Petroleum Geology/Sedimentology and PhD in Carbonate Sedimentology.
Apart from his core area of specialization, he has contributed immensely in the fields of Petroleum and Environmental Geology, Ocean science (coastline resources, dynamics and landform studies) and Historical Geology.
He has to his credit 1 PhD, 6 Masters and over 70 BSc students.
Prof. Nse Udo Essien until his appointment served in various capacities as a member of the State Executive Council.
First, as Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology and later as Honourable Commissioner for Education. Before then, he was the Head of Department of Geology, University of Calabar (2012 – 2014).
In his few months as Commissioner for Education, he coordinated the Maiden Akwa Ibom State Education Summit, successfully organised NAAKISS elections and swore in her Executive after a 12 year leadership stalemate, ensured a cordial working relationship between the Ministry and relevant Education stakeholders.
Staged a concerted battle against illegal schools across the State, organised and coordinated the School on Radio Programme to prepare Akwa Ibom Students for examinations while on lockdown.
A devout Christian, Prof. Nse Essien is married to Mrs. Ndifreke Essien and they are blessed with four (4) children.
