Speaker of Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Barr. Onofiok Luke has appreciated Assembly staff for their supporting role which has contributed to the success of the Sixth Assembly. It was an emotional moment for the Speaker and staff of the Assembly during the thank you meeting.
It is on record that Barr. Luke has enjoyed a peaceful working relationship with staff and management of the Assembly through out his four year tenure which would end Thursday this week. While addressing the Assembly staff at the old chapel of the Assembly, the Speaker appreciated the Clerk, Heads of department, Unit heads, supporting staff, drivers, Cleaners, various unions in the assembly and other category of staff serving in the House of Assembly for the various supportive they played which he noted had contributed to the success of the Sixth Assembly.
In appreciation of the support he enjoyed from the Assembly staff in the past four years, the outgoing Speaker announced a N5 million donation for the Assembly Staff Welfare Cooperative Society and another N5 million parting gift to be shared amongst the staff of the House of Assembly.
“We’ve enjoyed a robust working relationship with you. I called this meeting to tell you thank you for supporting me. You’ve given me immense support. You have all in one way or the other contributed immensely to the success of the Sixth Assembly. I thank my drivers, staff of the Office of the Speaker, i’ve never had cause to complain about anything. The Clerk you’ve been a wonderful woman.
I want to say a very big thank you on behalf of my family and my colleagues”
Responding, the representative of the Parliamentary Union in the assembly. Mr. Etinwan Etim praised the Speaker for deeming it necessary to appreciate staff of the State Assembly as he would be exiting office for a higher calling in the National Assembly. He said the staff would greatly miss Onofiok Luke, and prayed God to guide, keep and protect him.
As a mark of appreciation to the Speaker, the staff presented a plaque and a she goat to the outgoing Speaker.
Also speaking, the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren commended the Speaker for his exemplary leadership styles, saying he would greatly be missed by them. He particularly thanked Luke for the N5 Million donation to the Staff Cooperative Society.
