Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel has submitted 19 Commissioners and two Spacial Advisers nominees to Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly for ractification and confirmation of appointment yesterday Tuesday, June 25, 2019 during the plenary session of the House.
In a letter addressed to the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey as read by the clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren during plenary, Commissioners nominees are: Mr. Akan Okon, Architect Ime Okon Ekpo, Mr. Nse Udoessien, Uwemedimoh Thomas Esq, Sir Monday Ebong Uko, Mr. Linus Nkan, Rt. Hon. Okpolupm Ette, Mr. Ephraim Akparawa Inyang-eyen, Barr. Ekong Sampson.
Others include: Mr. charles Udoh, Mr. Orman Esin, Dr Iniobong Essien, Dr. Dominic Ukpong, Mrs. Gloria Edet, Hon Udoh Ekpenyong, Prince Ukpong Akpabio, Rt. Hon. Eno Etim Uno, Otuekong Raphael Bassey, prof. Victor Bassey Inoka.
While Special Advisers nominees are; Pastor Hon. Sunday Ekanem Ibout and Mr. Ekemini David Umoh.
All other things being equal, at the House Committee level and subsequent scrutiny of the nominees on the floor of the House, the above listed presons shall serve in the new cabinet of the present administration.
However, assessing the lists of Commissioners and Special Advisers Nominees as sent to the House by the Governor, over 85% of members of the State Executive Council of Governor Emmanuel’s first administration are making the new list.
Also, out of the 21 nominees presented to the House, the list had only a female nominee in the person of Dr. ( Mrs.) Gloria Edet, the immediate past Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare in the State.
Peradventure, the nomination of Mrs. Edet scaled through scrutiny before the House, Dr. Edet will be the longest female serving State Executive Council member in the State as she had served still as a commisoner during the second term administration of Senator Godswill Akpabio and first administration of Governor Udom Emmanuel, respectively and the only female in new cabinet.
However, the House Leader, Rt. Hon. Udo Kierian Akpan, lawmaker Oruk Anam State Constituency moved a motion for the message to be received by the House for furhter legislative action and was seconded by the Deputy Leader of the House, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Aniefiok Dennis of Etinan State Constituency.
In his ruling, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey Committed the message to House Committee on Judiciary, Justice, Human Rights and Public Petition to report back to the House within one week interval.
