The Chairman, House Committee on Special Projects, Monitoring/Implementation and Aviation Development Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko Led Members Of The Committee To Ibom Airport
The Chairman, House Committee on Special Projects, Monitoring/Implementation and Aviation Development Rt. Hon. Aniekan Uko gave the commendation when the Committee embarked on an appraisal tour of Ibom Airport as local flights resume today in the State
Hon. Uko also appreciated the MD/CEO of Ibom Airport Development Company Limited (IADCL), Mr. Uwem Ekanem and entire management for their efforts to curb the spread of coronavirus spread at the Airport.
He further lauded them for introducing several security and safety measures, including security Checks, provision of social distancing marking, arrival, check-in and departure guidelines for safety of passengers.
The Ibesikpo Asutan Lawmaker called on passengers to adhere strictly to the new protocol put in the place by the Airport management to avert rapid spread of the virus as local flight resumes in the State.
Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ibom Airport Development Company Limited (IADCL), Mr. Uwem Ekanem Addressed The Committee Members
Earlier on, the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer, Ibom Airport Development Company Limited (IADCL), Mr. Uwem Ekanem while receiving the delegation led by the committee chairman, Hon. Aniekan Uko described the visit as symbolic as local flight commences today for the first time since restrictions aimed at preventing the spread of coronavirus began.
Mr. Ekanem enumerated safety measures put in place at the departure, inside aircrafts and at the arrival units of the airport to include: compulsory temperature and symptoms checks, compulsory use of face masks at all times inside the airport and airplane.
He added that travellers must also have to sanitize their hands at all points and follow accurately the physical distancing markings at all times.
The MD/CEO also disclosed that henceforth, VIPs are prohibited from bringing non- travelling aides to the airport terminal.
The CEO also appreciated Governor Emmanuel for sufficiently funding operations of the airports to ensure required facilities in accordance with NCDC and WHO guidelines are met for smooth take off of flight in the State.
Mr. Ekanem charged passengers to embrace the new normal and coperate accordingly with officials at the airport as security agencies at the airport had been directed to tackle security breaches.
He commended the committee for deeming it fit to oversight the airport and its activities upon resumption and solicited for the House to use its good offices and spread the new norm to Akwa Ibom public and passengers in particular.
The Airport Boss conducted the committee members around the arrival, check-in point and the departure unit for a first hand appraisal of saftey guidelines put in place for a smooth take off of aviation business in the State.

Hon. Asuquo Nana Udo – Member representing Ikono State Constituency
In his observation immediately after the tour of units at the Airport, Hon. Asuquo Udo of Ikono State Constituency expressed gratification with the world class preventive measures put in place by management of the Victor Attah International Airport.
Rt. Hon. (Dr.) Usoro Akpanusoh- Member Representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency
On his part, Rt. Hon. Usoro Akpanusoh representing Esit Eket/Ibeno State Constituency commended the appreciable level of preparedness of managers of the Airport on commencement of commercial activities.
“What we have seen today has given the House confidence that the managers of Ibom Airport are ready to take business to the world”, he observed!
Hon. Akpanusoh also opined provision of adequate check points at the Airport to ensure passengers embarking on journey do not spend unnecessary time at checkpoint.
Hon. Barr. Esse Umoh – Member Representing Essien Udim State Constituency
Hon. Esse Umoh, speaking for Essien Udim State Constituency commended Governor Udom Emmanuel and the management team for a job well done and sued for sustainability of the safety measures at all times.
Hon. Barr. Otobong Bob – Member Representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency
Also, Hon. Otobong Bob of Nsit Ubium State Constituency equally suggested adopting measures that shall speed up check- in and disembarking of passengers from the airplane.
He also lauded the effort of Governor Udom Emmanuel in fighting against the spread of COVID-19 in all sectors.
It is on record that Kano, Rivers State, Owerri and Maiduguri had resumed flights on July 11 while Victor Attah International Airport commences it local flight today, July 15, 2020.
