Hon. Ifiok Udoh, Member representing Nsit Ibom State Constituency on Thursday lamented the poor condition of bridges in his Constituency even as he called for immediate action to ameliorate the agony of his people.
Hon. Udoh brought this to the notice of the House during plenary by way of motion titled: “Concerned Over The State Of Bridges In Nsit Ibom State Constituency
: A Call For Immediate Action”.
Nsit Ibom Lawmaker Expressed Concerns Over collapsed Bridges In Nsit Ibom
In his submission, Hon. Ifiok Udoh expressed concern over deplorable state of bridges in Nsit Ibom Local Government Area, thereby subjecting the economic and social lives of the residents of the affected area to series of agony and unfortunate mishap.
He mentioned the deplorable bridges to include: Ekpene Ikpan/Ikot Offiok Bridges; Okukuk/Mbiakut Bridge; Nkwot/Ikot Akata Bridge; Ikot Odiong/Ikot Akata Bridge.
Hon. Ifiok Udoh disclosed that some of the affected bridges are major routes for commuters and motorists traversing Ikot Nya, Ikot Idem, Afaha Offiong, Edebom, Nkwot Ikot Odiong to mention but five.

said worrisome is the attendant difficulties and cost Implications road users incurred by traversing alternative routes to the desired destination.
Hon. Ifiok Udoh noted that these areas hitherto had been of great economic benefits to the State as “fine sharp sand” for civil engineering activities in Uyo were sourced from perennially flowing streams and rivers in these environs mentioned communities.
Expressing deep concerns that in time past, several souls has passed on due to accidents experienced by people who attempt to use these bridges and roads”.
Hon. Ifiok Udoh Prayed For Urgent Intervention From Government
Hon. Ifiok Udoh prayed the House to pass a resolution to call on the State Government to direct the Ministry of Works or any other agency of government to move into these areas to reconstruct or rehabilitate these bridges.
He further urged the House to call on the Nsit Ibom Local Government Area Administration to immediately provide remedial actions to keep these bridges and roads at safety standard for temporal usage till the State Government move to construct the bridges.
In his ruling, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey further refered the Motion to the House Committee on Works and Transport for further Legislative actions and report back within a month.
