Editor-in-chief of Daily News Wire Newspaper, a weekly Akwa Ibom based publication, Comr. Amos Etuk has this evening emerged the new Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists, Akwa Ibom State Council.
Other members of the new Executive are: Comr. Nene Afia, Vice Chairman, Comr. Dominic Akpan, Secretary, Comr. Mfon Hanson Assistant Secretary, Comr. Anietie Esu, Auditor, Comr. Emmanuel Silas, Financial Secretary and Comr. Imaikop Robert, Treasurer.
It is worthy of note that Comr. Amos Etuk is succeeding Elder Patrick Albert, the immediate past NUJ Chairman, Akwa Ibom State Council, who for the first time in the history of Union in Akwa Ibom State Council broke the jinx of serving two terms in office as Chairman.
Going down the memory lane, Comr. Etuk before his emergence as the New chairman of the Union had served in the immediate past executive of the union as the Secretary for the past three years.
Also, comr. Etuk who is one of the pioneer members of Consolidated Chapel, NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council , had served as Secretary and Chairman Consolidated Chapel.
Interestingly, immediately after the official swearing-in of the new Exco, the Chairman, Comr. Etuk in his inaugural address said :“For this moment in our history, I thank God for the beginning of a new future, I thank God for the collective unity, I thank God for this collective victory, I thank God for giving this union a stand to speak and I thank God for us for standing for what we believe in.
“Above all, I thank God that the next step of our future, will enhance our professionalism, will enhance our welfare and our team work approach will enhance our quality service delivery”.
Of all the seven elected positions in the State executive, Chairmanship position, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer and Auditor were keenly contested and elected while positions of Vice Chairman and Financial Secretary were unopposed and returned elected.
