Akwa Ibom State Government COVID-19 Church monitoring team for Uyo Senatorial District has again called on Churches in the District to heed the directives of the government and CAN on Church reopening guidelines and act in the best interest of all members as the team lauds level of compliance so far.
The chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Government COVID-19 Church monitoring team for Uyo Senatorial District, Hon. Eric Akpan made the clarion call during today’s monitoring exercise across eight out of the nine Local Government Areas of the district.
Church Monitoring Team Lauds Churches Compliance with Guidelines
Hon. Eric Akpan who led the team members during the Church Monitoring exercise acknowledged the high level of compliance in most churches visited especially in the urban areas.
He commended the State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for setting up church monitoring Teams, observing that sustained sensitisation and monitoring has encouraged high level of compliance and create awareness on the need to stay safe while worshipping God.
Hon. Akpan who is also the Executive Chairman of Nsit Ibom Local Government Area,
lauded church leaders for ensuring members adhere to the underlining principles of appropriate usage of face masks, provision of running water at Church Auditorium entrances and maintaining social distancing.
He appreciated most churches for standing down on night vigil and other extra Church related services in the mean time and urged them to remain optimistic that normalcy shall soon return to church and the society in general.
The committee which commenced her monthly exercise today at about 7: 15 am, visited churches in 8 Local newspaper Areas of the State, they are: Itu, Ibiono Ibom, Etinan, Nsit Ibom, Ibesikpo Asutan, Nist Ubium, Nsit Atai and Uruan Local Government Areas.
95 percent of churches visited across the 8 Local Government areas complied impressively while few defaulting ones were found mainly at the outskirts.
The committee visited six churches in Itu Local Government Area, namely; Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries – Idoro Road, Christ Family Ministries, opposite Mountain of Fire and Miracle Ministries, and Living Faith Church, Idoro road.
Others are: Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Idoro road, The Lord’s Chosen Charismatic Revival Ministries, Nung Ukot Itam, and Grace and Power Gospel Mission Inc, Nung Ukot Itam.
At Ibiono Ibom, a total Number of three churches were supervised by the Committee. The churches are: Grace and Power Mission Inco. Use Abat, World Missionary Church, Use Abat, and The Church of Christ, Ikot Antong- Use Abat.
Also, the Committee stopped over at four different churches in Etinan Local government Areas. Reigners Bible Church International Inco., The Apostolic Church Ekpene Ukpa, Qua Iboe Church, Ekpene Ukpa, and I reigned Christ Church, Ekpene Ukpa.
Reaching Nsit Ibom, the team visited 5 churches namely: Mount Zion Light House Full Gospel Church Inc., Afaha Nsit 11, Qua Iboe Church, Afaha Nsit 11, Church of Christ Nigeria, Afaha Nsit 11, Full Gospel Church of God, Afaha Nsit 11, and Lutheran church of Nigeria, Afaha Nsit 11.
Church Monitoring Team Visits Ibesikpo Asutan
At Ibesikpo Asutan Local Government Area, two churches were observed. They are: Church of Christ Ikot Abasi, and New Apostolic Church, Ikot Akpa Edung.
Also,The church of Christ, Ndiya, United Evangelical Church, Ikot Imo Superintendency, and St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Ikot Imo were the three churches visited by the team.
Again, at Nsit Atai, two churches were visited which are: The Salvation Army, Nda Nsit Corps and The Apostolic Church, Nda Nsit while the committee couldn’t meet up any Church in service as of the time of their visit to Churches in Uruan Local Government areas
Today’s exercise had in attendance members of the church monitoring team, security agents and members of the press.
