Akwa Ibom State Government which met last Friday after the Executive Council meeting stated that there will be guidelines which will be adopted after extensive deliberations on the expectations from Schools as Government considers reopening of schools soon.

Our source hinted us that Akwa Ibom State Government is targeting next month for a possible resumption of Schools in line with the expected guidelines which is likely to be released this week after approval by the Governor Emmanuel.

” Schools resumption will be reviewed. When we meet at the State Executive Council meeting we will work out new guidelines we believe will guide towards the reopening of all Schools in the State”.

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel asserted the above in Uyo during a media interactive session where he restated the commitment of his administration to ensure that laws made to combat the COVID 19 pandemic are not broken and that nobody no matter how highly placed will be allowed to flout the constituted guidelines.

Mr. Emmanuel has clearly stated that there will be no sacred cows on anyone who flouts the World Health Organisation and approved Guidelines of the State Government towards curbing the COVID 19 pandemic in the State.

Governor Emmanuel said that starting from the weekend of July 4, 2020, Akwa Ibom State Government had lifted the ban on social gatherings like funerals and weddings.

He said emphatically that burials conducted in open spaces will not constitute more than 50 persons while burials which will be done inside worship centres should not constitute more than 30 persons.

The Governor stated that the State Monitoring Committee will ensure that all guidelines are adhered to and where there are breaches at such venues, persons involved will be arrested and prosecuted.

” Nobody is above the law. We must all comply with all the guidelines as specified and we will arrest persons who flout any of the precautionary measures. It is set in our best interest and safety against coming in contact with these virus”, Governor Emmanuel stated.

On weddings, Governor Emmanuel said it will follow the same guidelines emphasizing that the new measures will help families ease the economic challenges in carrying out these social functions as it will save costs.

He further said that persons who do not wear their face masks will be arrested and prosecuted by the law enforcement agencies.

” If you cannot wear a mask, it is better you stay at home. We will be very strict in enforcing this guidelines. There will be no compromise”, the Governor said.

Governor Emmanuel stated that since April 1, 2020, the State Government has been managing cases till date without any financial support from the Federal Government as the State is gradually running out of drugs at the designated isolation centres as the bulk of drugs used in the State are imported to fight the pandemic.

” We are yet to receive a dime from the Federal Government as support towards fighting this pandemic till date”.  he said .

On the number of cases in the State which has increased in recent weeks, Governor Emmanuel said there had been an influx of patients coming into the State to seek treatment.

A situation which has made contact tracing more challenging as the patients are not resident here but because they are indigenes, the administration has an obligation to ensure that lives are saved at all cost.

” We must be determined to stay safe. It is our responsibility to save lives. We will continue to provide to save the lives of every Akwa Ibom State indigene,” he stated.

On the issue of livestock movement into the State, Governor Emmanuel said the ban on livestock into the State is still in force and that the curfew time remains 8pm- 6am .

” The ban on livestock remains in force. Our curfew time remains 8pm-6am. The livestock ban is in our best interest so the interstate movement does not mean the movement of livestock”, Governor Emmanuel said.
