Akwa Ibom College  of Education Matriculates over 1,000 Freshmen

About 1,329 freshmen in NCE and Degree Programmes have been formally admitted into the Akwa Ibom State College of Eduction, Afaha Nsit at the School’s Sport Stadium during the 30th NCE and 3rd Batch Degree matriculation ceremony today October 8, 2021.

The Provost, Dr. Daniel Udo led other members of the Management and Deans of Faculties in a colourful epochal ceremony that marked the official admission of the new students into the Institution.

In his welcome address to the students, the Provost while congratulating them on their successful admission into the citadel of learning, charged them to work assiduously to attain academic excellence.

Dr. Udo disclosed that the 1,329 matriculating students spread across the school as follows: School of Languages 156, School of Vocational & Technical Education 135, School of Science 244, School of Arts and Social Science 220, School of Primary Education 129, while students for Degree Programme stand at 445.

He assured them the renewed commitment of the Governing Council, Management and the total workforce in the Institution to double up their efforts in availing the Sudents the best learning atmosphere with the aim of making their academic venture a worthwhile.

As an education training Institution, the Provost admonished the new intakes against acts of indiscipline and dishonesty, expecting them to abide by the rules and regulations of the Institution.

The Provost, Akwa Ibom State College of Education urged the freshmen to do their best to be numbered among  the College’s success stories.

He appreciated the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel for his huge investment into the Institution. His appreciation equally went to Governing Council of the Institution, Management, Staff and other relevant stakeholders for being catalysts in the success story of the Institution.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo on behalf of the Governing Council, Senate, Management and entire staff of the University of Uyo,  congratulated the 2020/2021 fresh students of Akwa Ibom State College of Education.

Represented by the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Antiaobong Ekong, the VC posited that; “Matriculation is an initiation for new students. It is a time to let new students know that they have become part of a Tertiary Institution system.

“At the end of this ceremony, you will be admitted into full membership of the students’ body and in return you are expected as students to abide by the code of conduct of the University of Uyo, who is over-seeing your studies in this institution as (Father-figure) an Affiliate University”.

He charged the new Students of Akwa Ibom  State College of Education to look beyond their various backgrounds as they shall be given equal opportunities to imbibe new ideas, share their thoughts and be the best they can be.

The VC emphasized that only a serious approach can quarantee a glorious and excellent result and advised them to rise above all odds and put in more effort to achieve outstanding success.

Prof. Ndaeyo urged them to shun cultism, make the best out  of the opportunity and contribute positively to the development of educational sector of State and the Nation in general.

Also, in her goodwill message, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet joined other speakers in congratulating the matriculating students.

Mrs. Etiebet who was represented by the Permanent  Secretary, Ministry of Education, Lady Rose Bassey said Governor Udom Emmanuel is paying premium to the educational sector as one of his Completion Agenda drives and called on the Students to remain studious in other to come out with flying colours.

Similarly, the Chairman Governing Council of the College Hon. (Barr.) Bassey Dan-Abia Jnr who was represented by a member of the Council, Obonganwan Mandu Abia congratulated the Freshmen and wished them success in their academic pursuit.

The Registrar, Barr. Augustine Udoibit was on hand to administer the Matriculation Oath on the students.

The matriculation was graced by Dr. Imo Moffat, Honourable Commissioner for Science and Technology, representives of sister institutions, royal fathers, Governing council members, management, staff of the college, parents and guardians as well as the students amongst others.
