8 Commissioners and Special Advisers Nominees Screened By Akwa Ibom Legislature
The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Bassey, explained that the eight Commissioners and Special Advisers nominees confirmed by the House were: Comrade Ini Ememobong, Hon. Frank Archibong, Prof. Eno Ibanga, Elder Amanam Nkanga, Dr. Augustine Umoh, Dr. Ini Adiakpan Mrs. Enobong Mbobo and Mr. Imo Moffot.
While presenting the report of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Public Petition on the Screening of Governor’s nominees, the Chairman, Hon. Victor Ekwere said the nominees were screened on Monday July 20 over Tuesday 21st July 2020.
Hon. Ekwere disclosed that they all answered the questions put to them satisfactorily and provided all the necessary documents.
The committee opined that while assigning port folios to the nominees, Governor Udom Emmanuel should consider their career, educational qualifications, experience and area of specialisation to have square pegs in square holes.
The Committee Chairman, who is also representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State Legislature said the Committee observed that: “all the nominees met the constitutional requirements for appointment as Commissioners and SAs as outlined in section 192 (4) and 106 of 1999 constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended”.
The Committee in its opinion, described the nominees as being intelligent men and women that will add value to the administrative Machinery of the State.
Hon. Ekwere on behalf of the Commttee commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for his choice of nominees who according to him are men and women of proven integrity, into the State Executive Council.
The speaker has mandated the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren to communicate the resolution of the House, to Governor Udom Emmanuel.
Akwa Ibom Legislature Also Receives Notification of Bill
Earlier on, a Bill for a law to provide for the compulsory medical treatment and care for child victim of sexual violence and for related matters was read the first on the floor of the House.
The bill is sponsored by Rt. Hon. Felicia Bassey, Deputy Speaker of the House and 8 others.
The Speaker has committed the bill to House Committee on Rules, Ethics, Business and Privileges for rescheduling.
For the time being, The House has adjourned plenary to reassemble on Tuesday August 11, 2020.
