A., a forum of prominent Akwa Ibom Peolle residing in the United States of America had also in different fora written to National Atomic Energy Commission and held press conference rejecting the citing of the Nuclear Power plant in Itu Local Government Area or any other part of Akwa Ibom State describing it as a “Greek Gift”, and “a disaster -in- waiting” for the people.
The Itu Lawmaker stated the the Nuclear power plant project does not conform with international standards guiding the implementation of civil nuclear programs across the globe, adding that constant emission of radioactive radiations, discharge of non-biodegradable radioactive wastes, absorption into ecosystem and food chain, as some dangers Akwa Ibom people would be exposed to, if the nuclear power plant is cited in Itu LGA or any other part of the state.
