AKHA promises collaboration with the Media

The Chairman, House Committee on Information, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Aniefiok Dennis has appealed for adequate and objective coverage of the 7th Assembly and sued collaboration between the media and Legislatuee for effective reportage of its activities.
Barr. Dennis who is also the representative for Etinan State Constituency made the appeal during the inaugural press briefing of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly at the Assembly Complex, yesterday.

Rt. Hon. Dennis in his speech said that “as a vital arm of government in democracy, we will strive to step up our core functions in this dispensation and our focus shall include, but not limited to: enacting legislations and resolutions aimed at promoting and fast tracking the Completion Agenda of the state government.

“Interfacing and engaging a wide spectrum of stakeholders in the Akwa Ibom project towards sustainable development of the state, encouraging the participation of the people in the process of law making and governance through the hosting of regular public hearings on crucial issues, law making and governance”, as other core thrusts of the seventh Assembly.

He assured that “more than ever, the 7th Assembly will step up its over sight functions with the view of ensuring greater efficiency in the Ministries, Local Governments, Departments and Agencies and solicited the support of the media on its journey for the betterment and progress of Akwa Ibom State”.

Also, the Deputy Chief Whip Rt. Hon. Nse Essien who is also a member of the Committee, Rt. Hon. Nse Essien tasked the media on unbiased and fair reportage and also stressed the need for media practitioners to uphold the principles of balance and fair reportage of issues and event in order to engender peace and stability among members of the House and in the State respectively.

A Committee Member/member representing Itu State Constituency, Hon. KufreAbasi Edidem, also urged the media practitioners to adhere to the ethics of journalism in their reportage.

Other members of the Committee who also solicited for fair and balances reportage from members of press corps  were: Rt. Hon. Mark Esset, representative for Nsit Atai State Constituency and Hon. Mfon Idung of Etim Ekpo/Ika State Constituency.
