Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has passed into law a bill for a law to implement a sustainable youth framework through the establishment and management of Akwa Ibom State Youth Development Fund and other matters related therewith, during its last plenary.
The bill titled: ‘Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund Bill’ was passed, Wednesday by the House following the adoption of the report by the House Joint Committees on Security, Youth and Sports and Economic Planning and Development by the lawmakers.
The bill which was proposed by youth groups including Youth Alive Foundation, with Hon. (Otuekong) Emmanuel Bassey, Member Representing Ini State Constituency as the lead sponsor, seeks to enhance the establishment of the Akwa Ibom Youth Development Fund which ultimate aim is to create jobs and evolve greater opportunities for the teaming youths.
The bill among things also seeks to automatically reduce youths restiveness and anti-social activities; such as armed rubbery, kidnapping, stealing and prostitution.
The bill was read the third time and passed into law by members of the House following the motion moved by Rt. Hon. Ime Okon, Deputy Leader of the House and member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency and seconded by Rt. Hon. Idongesit Ntekpere representative for Ikot Ekpene/Obot Akara State Constituency.
Reacting, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. (Barr.) Onofiok Luke thanked Youth Alive Foundation and other Youth Organisations in the State for proposing the bill, the lead sponsor, Chairmen/members of the House joint committees as well as the entire members of the legislature for their painstaking effort in ensuring the smooth passage of the bill.
The Speaker however, directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs. Mandu Umoren to communicate the message to the Governor for appropriate action.
Earlier on, the House congratulated Governor Udom Emmanuel on his second term election and appreciated Akwa Ibom people for portraying peaceful disposition that gave the State hitch-free polls.
