Senator Bassey Albert of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has again defeated Mr. Bassey Etim of All Progressive Congress Party (APC) in the just concluded Akwa Ibom North East Senatorial race.
Prof. Idara Akpabio the returning officer declared the results at Senatorial Collation Centre, Ikot Akpan Abia INEC Office, Akwa Ibom State.
The returning officer said Senator Albert Akpan polled total votes of 147,731 while Mr. Bassey Etim secured 60,930 votes.
Senator Bassey Albert emerged winner of the Uyo Senatorial District race with an overwhelming margin lead of 34,296 votes against his APC opponent, Mr. Etim.
It could be recalled in 2015, Mr. Bassey Etim contested same Senatorial seat with Senator Bassey Albert where the later emerged the winner in the contest.
Presently, the Senator elect, is representing Uyo Senatorial District at the Senate and his victory at the polls has availed him yet another opportunity of rendering his highly a plausible representation to the people of the district.
The incumbent while thanking God and his supporters immediately after the announcement of his victory attributed his success to the will of God through the votes of Akwa Ibom North East people.
While commending the people for believing in PDP and it’s candidates, he reassured consolidating on purposeful and more rubost representation to the people through frequent connection and interface with constituents.
Meanwhile, the news of his victory at the February 23rd, 2019 National Assembly polls, senate has activated celebration mood across the nine local government Areas of the Senatorial District.
Local government Areas components of the Senatorial District are: Uyo, Ibiono Ibom, Itu, Uruan, Nsit Atai, Nsit Ibom, Nsit Ubium, Ibesikpo Asutan and Etinan.
