It is a general belief thanksgiving expresses extreme gratitude, humility and understanding, it was on this heels that the Chairman, Akwa Ibom Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Arch Bishop (Dr.) Cletus Bassey led 2018 returning pilgrims to a special reception and thanksgiving service last recently.
The special thanksgiving service which took place at Destiny International Mission, Ewet Housing Estate, Uyo, had as its theme: “In the Footsteps of Jesus Christ” it was well attended by expected personalities.
Addressing the 2018 prilgrims and congregation, the Governor of the State, Mr. Udom Emmanuel described 2018 pilgrimage as being significant with great impact on the peaceful and successful conduct of 2019 general elections, hence, the thanksgiving became a necessity.
The Governor who spoke through the Commissioner for Environment and Mineral Resources, Dr. Iniobong Essien commended the newest Jerusalem pilgrims on their peaceful conducts and fervent prayers for the State while in the holy land.
Governor Emmanuel remained optimistic that their lifestyle and conduct is reflecting christ as they have walked in Christ’s footsteps while in the holy land.
He demanded that ; “elections are over but we still need your prayers for the stability of our country as development can only thrive in a peaceful atmosphere. We need a peaceful and secure environment to actualise our vision for our dear State, for more thanksgivings.
“I want to commend the chairman, members and staff of Christian pilgrims board for a job well done. It is a great feat to take pilgrims to Isreal and bring them back intact. I am also thankful to God for the safe flight he granted them to and from the Holy Land”. Governor Emmanuel appreciated!
Earlier in his address, the Chairman Akwa Ibom Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board, Arch Bishop (Dr.) Cletus Bassey disclosed that the thanksgiving service was to offer appreciation to God for granting the 2018 returning pilgrims safety to the holy land.
On behalf of the Board, the Chairman congratulated Governor Udom Emmanuel for his overwhelming victory at the guber poll, adding that his victory is a reaffirmation of God’s divine purpose for Akwa Ibom State.
He used the thanksgiving service and request for a functional transportation system for the board for effective discharge of duties as required.
Also, in his exhortation during the thanksgiving service, Rev. Udeme Akpan preached on the theme: “Friendship” and drew his text from Ecclesiastes 4 verse 9.
The clergy while disclosing some attributes of friendship to include; breaking barriers of poverty, lack, colour and race, he called on the church as an embodiment of Christ to walk in the footsteps of the master and render thanksgiving to God at all times.
Speaking on behalf of batch one and batch two of 2018 returning pilgrims, in simple words but expressing what each of them found and absorbed, in the holy land where everything began, and which recapitulates everything in itself, Mr. Richard Ukpeh and Mrs. Uduak Ududoh appreciated God for journey mercies and commended Governor Udom Emmanuel for sponsoring the trip that has brought great rivival to the State.
The thanksgiving service featured prayer seesion for Governor Udom Emmanuel, Members of NASS and State Assemblies, the Judiciary and the entire people of Akwa Ibom State.
High point of the thanksgiving service was the presentation of souvenir to Governor Udom Emmanuel by Akwa Ibom State 2018 returning pilgrims.
