757 Students Matriculate at COE

757 Students Matriculate at COE
A total number of Seven Hundred and Fifty-Seven (757) students took the matriculation oath and pledge at the 31st NCE and 4th Batch of Degree Matriculation Ceremony of the Akwa Ibom State College of Education, Afaha Nsit which took place at the Institution’s Sports Ground, last week.

The Provost, Dr. Daniel Udo while delivering his address congratulated the newly-admitted students on their successful admission into the College.

He urged the students to always take their studies serious, while upholding the rules and regulations of the Institution.

Dr. Udo also admonished them againt involving in cultist, examination malpractice and other acts that could cut short their status as students of the Institution.

The Provost described teaching as a noble provision and re-emphasized that the Institution has zero tolerance for any form of indiscipline and dishonesty.

“Considering that this is a teacher-grooming institution, we expect zero tolerance to all forms of indiscipline and dishonesty from you all.

“Students are expected to abide by the rules and regulations prevalent in this academic community and as entrenched in their matriculation oath.

“The College operates a well organized administrative system and so due process is expected at all times.

“Given its pedigree as the only NCE Teacher’s Training Institution in the state today, College of Education Afaha Nsit will not entertain any form of sentiments, ethnic bigotry or political gimmicks that seek to derail the focus of the current administration in this College”, the Provost admonished.

He went further to reveal that the 757 matriculating students are spread across the Schools as follows:
School of Languages – 51
School of Vocational & Technical Education – 58
School of Science – 108
School of Arts and Social Science  – 84
School of Primary Education – 41
Degree Programme – 419.

In his speech, the Cnairman, Governing Council of the College, Hon. (Barr. ) Bassey Dan Abia jnr., congratulated the freshmen on their matriculation ceremony.

Barr. Abia urged them to acknowledge the fact that they will be taught to become teachers and trained to impact on the next generation.

He further charged them on being committed while  persevering to attain their set goals.

The Chairman, Governing Council equally warned that “The Governing Council has zero tolerance for indiscipline and lawlessness. As such, I urge you to be law abiding and adhere strictly to the rules and regulations of the Institution”.

Also, the Vice Chancellor, University of Uyo, Uyo, Prof. Nyaudo Ndaeyo charged the matriculating students on aiming high, adding that convocation ceremony is more ceremonious than matriculation.

He advised them to stay off activities that could truncate their studies at the Institution and wished them success throughout their academic session in the School.

Again, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet charged the new intake to embrace teaching as a noble profession without any form of controversy.

Represented by Dr. Mrs Glory Ekpo, the Commissioner appealed to the students to be more studious and present themselves, as good ambassadors of the citadel of learning.

Many of the new students expressed their delight at the matriculation, as they were seen celebrating with friends family, coursemates and well-wishers in a thrilling atmosphere.

It is expected that students shall equally gather parents, friends and relatives to celebrate their convocation ceremony upon graduation.

Some of the dignitaries present at the matriculation were: Dr. Godwin Akpan, Akwa Ibom State Focal Person National Social Investment Programme, Governing Council Member, COE Afaha Nsit,National Secretary, Conference of Alumni Association of Nigerian Universities, (CAANU) and National Deputy President, Uniuyo Alumni Association, the Registrar, Dr. Samuel Oworekpe, College of Science and Technology, Nung Ukim Ikono, Governing Council Members of the School, Management Staff, academic and no-academic staff.
